Jeff-Clark Preservation is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and heritage associated with our community. Our goals are to assist in the preservation of buildings in Jeffersonville and Clark County and to encourage their adaptive reuse.

When the double federal style house at 111-113 West Chestnut Street burned, it inspired two dedicated and forward thinking people, Rosemary Prentice and Harvey Russ to step forward and formally incorporate the organization to rebuild and restore the Grisamore House. The house is on the National Historic Register and was the first home of the Southern Regional Office of Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana.

To accomplish these goals, Jeff-Clark has undertaken a variety of projects. The Gregory House at 313 Pearl Street was purchased, renovated and resold as a family residence. The declining Pennsylvania Railroad Station on Mitchell Avenue was offered to the group if they would move it. The station was relocated to City Hall Park and restored. It serves as a community event facility and the base for the organization.

Four more homes were rescued from demolition:
the Elliott house - 824 Walnut Street,
   the Maschmeyer-Young House
   209 West Market Street
   820 Meigs Avenue and
   the Staton-Holzbog House - 218 Locust Street.

Each home was rehabbed and resold as a private residence spurring more renovations in those neighborhoods.

The group has also partnered with Jeffersonville Main Street on the Lewman building in downtown to stabilize the building with a roof after a fire until a buyer was found and with the Downtown Merchants organization to sponsor a designer home showcasing a downtown property.

Jeff-Clark also sponsored Christmas Tours of historic homes. This generous opening of homes demonstrates the beauty of restored older homes and brings people to downtown Jeffersonville. Jeff-Clark developed walking tours of historic homes and buildings in downtown Jeffersonville.

Other projects include collecting and archiving pictures of historic homes, businesses and events and compiling a history of all the small groceries in town.

Being involved in the community has always been a priority. Jeff-Clark annually presents scholarships to area high school seniors. Jeff-Clark also sponsors educational seminars and school activities related to historic preservation.

Jeff-Clark is also active in Clark County Museum, Jeff Fest, Howard Steamboat Museum, Jeffersonville Main Street, Inc, the Falls of the Ohio, and other community related organizations and events.
